On the lookout for a cozy getaway this winter? Picture this: you arrive at your cabin for the weekend. It’s lightly snowing outside. You slip into a comfy, oversized sweater and slippers. Sounds pretty ideal right? Today we are outlining five cozy winter getaway spots for you to enjoy both a relaxing, and an adventurous weekend outside of your normal environment. 

Whitefish, Montana

Must-Do Activities: 

  • Looking for a stunning skiing location? Plan to hit the slopes at Whitefish Mountain Resort! Not a skier? That’s okay too! Activities like tubing, riding the gondola, or cross-country skiing can still be enjoyed. 
  • Snowshoe local trails or in the nearby Glacier National Park. Talk about views! Tourists travel from all over the world to check out this park. Here are some of the top recommended trails:

Telluride, Colorado

Must-Do Activities: 

  • Telluride is known for its world-renowned ski slopes and scores as “best Colorado ski resort” consistently. If you love shredding powder, you will definitely want to ski or snowboard at this mountain. 
  • Snowshoe local trails in Telluride. While some will require a bit more driving, Telluride also has trails that are connected to town. Many will feature frozen waterfalls or lakes! Here are some of the top recommended trails:

  • Plan a hut trip! While hut trips do require reservations months in advance, they are such a unique and adventurous way to experience a new destination!   • Ride the gondola for the most epic views over Colorado 14,000 foot peaks! You can also dine above the clouds at Allred’s Restaurant for the most incredible views overlooking Telluride. 
  • Spend a day walking around the town of Telluride. It has numerous breweries, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and shops to explore!

 

Big Bear, California

Must-Do Activities: 

  • Located 100 miles northeast of LA is California skiers paradise. There are two main ski resorts in Big Bear: Snow Summit and Big Bear Resort. 
  • Snowshoe local trails in Big Bear. While some will require a bit more driving, Telluride also has trails that are connected to town. Many will feature frozen waterfalls or lakes! Here are some of the top recommended trails:

Leavenworth, Washington

Must-Do Activities: 

  • Leavenworth, Washington is an enchanting little town that mirrors German culture, architecture, food and more! Because of its unique theme, it draws visitors from all over the country. Not to mention it’s tucked into the most idyllic Washington landscape! Winter is an especially popular time to visit because of all the Christmas festivities in town. We recommend visiting in December to take full advantage of the holiday cheer! And don’t miss out on the bavarian-style food!

  • Stop by the Nutcracker Haus! One of the largest Nutcracker shops in the country, this is certainly a popular Christmas time destination. Along with all of the other cute shops, Leavenworth is certainly the perfect town for Christmas shopping. 
  • Hit the slopes! For moderate-level skiing right by town, you can check out the Leavenworth Ski Hill. For more advanced skiing and a 45 minute drive, many locals enjoy skiing or snowboarding at Stevens Pass.

Stow, Vermont

Must-Do Activities:
